Thursday Apps: Plates

Plates is an app that allows multiple people to split their dinner bills with ease. It allows multiple people to easily figure out their individual dinner bills along with tax and tips by punching in the subtotal, tax and prices of each guest's meal. Each bill for each guest appears on their own plate in the end.

It allows the user to enter and drag items to individual plates, which makes the app fun and easy to use as opposed to the typical stern and serious look of finance-related utility apps. The fun and interactive experience of the app avoids the awkward situation at the table about who pays what.

Extra Credit: Revision of Shhpeakeasy

I decided to make changes to these three screens due to the problems with its hierarchy (Screen 2: Speakeasy Profile) and the user experience of the entire app (applies to all screens). I had also added a tip and tilted the bottle to show that the user can interact and embark on another Shhpeakeasy journey. I've also decided to make the background of the app dark, as the user would be using the app at night. It would enhance the experience for the user, as it is easier for him/her to see the screen. It also adds a sense of mystery towards the experience of discovering a speakeasy.

Concept Ideas for Project 2

Our concept for project 2:

-An all-in-one app that would allow the user to track packages from various different shipping companies (UPS, DHL, USPS, etc.) and from big retailers (Zara, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, etc.)

-Users: People who frequently shop online and have a busy schedule. They would like to keep track of their orders to make sure they can arrange a pick up time as efficiently as possible.

-The objective is not to show the tracking number, but to show items on which stage they are at in arriving to the final destination.

Thursday App

Threes! is a number matching game that provides an adorable user experience to a game that is normally perceived as 'geeky' and 'nerdy' (i.e. think of Sudoku). There are many games that are similar to Threes! that are free and available on the web (a very popular example that is extremely similar in terms of game rules is http://gabrielecirulli.github.io/2048/ ). However, Threes! is able to captivate the attention of many users is due to its friendly approach to numbers using cute characters, animations and sound effects/music.

The introduction of the game is straight forward and easy to approach, which soothes the anxiety most people have against number games (due to the mentally challenging logic that most number games have). The tiles are personified into characters that are cheerful and joyful when joined together, which makes the user feel lighthearted and accomplished when they have successfully matched up numbers.

The sound effects and music that are present during game play also helps to create a lighthearted, heartwarming experience for the user. The user is often addicted to the game for hours, as it is easy to play and succeed, while rewarding the user with a unique experience for number games.
